School Safety

Welcome to the HCSD School Safe and Orderly Schools Department

The Harrison County School District takes pride in maintaining the safety and security of its students, faculty, and staff while on campus or school related trips. To help facilitate this, the Department of Safety and Internal Compliance advises the superintendent and principals regarding safety and security practices and programs available to the district. The department director works hand in hand with the Harrison County Sheriff Department, the Gulfport Police Department, and the D'Iberville Police Department to ensure that the schools are as safe as they can be through the COPS in schools program. The director also conducts monthly safety training sessions for staff from each school or location to define the importance of each person's role in maintaining a safe school environment.

Pre-Employment Background Checks

One important safety measure taken by the Harrison County School District is the practice of fingerprinting and drug testing all new employees before they are eligible to begin working with or around students. Background checks are conducted through the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, the Department of Human Services Child Abuse division and the FBI in Virginia.

Faculty, Staff, and Visitor Identification

All Harrison County School District Faculty and Staff are required to wear a District Issued Photo Identification Card. Anyone seen on campus without this District ID will be asked to go to the locations main office to check in as a visitor. All Visitors on campus are required to check in at the main office and receive a Visitor Pass to be allowed on campus for any length of time. Visitors must sign in and out and must turn in their Visitor Pass upon leaving campus.
